St Marys Derby Day Fete

On Saturday the 1st of November our parish – St Mary’s had their Derby Day Fete. There were lots of rides such as the Music Trip, Tea Cups, and Slides. I believe that everyones favourite was the Music Trip because the line was so long.

As the day went on, they started drawing raffles and many people won money and vouchers. Afterwards there was bidding for all the donations. It was very windy that day and a lot of the tents and jumping castle had to be taken down or moved.  Inside of the food tents there were pancakes (they were the best), hotdogs, chocolate covered nuts and fruit, slices, cakes, hot drinks and cold ones.

The Harley rides around the river and foreshore were a lot of fun. There were two motorbikes to choose from but they were both really exciting. The fete this year was great fun for catching up with all of your friends, going on rides, looking through the donations, and enjoying the food and entertainment made a day with friends even better. All the work and effort put into this should really be recognised because without it we would have no fete.fete

Athletics Day

The bus pulled up on the dusty, rocky road. All the kids were nervous, and were trying to get good thoughts inside their heads. We all walked over to the stand and sat down Mr. B called us over the loud speaker “Would the under 12/13 boys please make your way over to the 100 meter start”. We all walked over to the starting line. We got into 3 heats I was in heat 3. The 2 other heats had just run and now it was our turn.  I was starting to get really nervous, “On your marks… get set … GO…”, and we were off. I didn’t have a great start but it was ok, I ran and ran and ran as fast as I could and I won the race. Ten minutes later Mr. B called us up for the final. “On your marks… get set… go…” and we ran and ran and ran I came first over the line and I was very happy with myself I really enjoyed the day and I had heaps of fun. Later on the bus came and we all went back to school.  Charlie l

Our Excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria

The art gallery was beautiful. Just the sight of the floor to ceiling water feature and the coloured glass structures, were as calming and soothing as if we were at home or somewhere familiar.

The first thing we went to look at was the dome. It was designed by Rory Hyde. Rory Hyde had the idea to use 945 bins to make a dome structure. Eventually we went into the sound room. It was the noisiest of all in the exhibit. The person who thought of this idea was Marco Fuscinato. He was inspired to make a structure capturing light and sound. He must have had a lot of creativity in him to design this.

As time went by, looking at all sorts of art and design, it came to lunch time. We all lined up and were given a brown paper bag, containing a ham and cheese sandwich, an apple, a gingerbread man and a bottle of water. We sat down to enjoy our lunch in the largest hall in the southern hemisphere. (The Great Hall)

After lunch, we had a workshop in the amazing art gallery. We were told to make an artwork. For this we applied our knowledge of foreground, middle ground and background. All of the people in grade 6 did a great job, for they all created something fantastic and each one was an original.

Our day at the gallery was very enjoyable. By seeing all the artwork and hearing about how it was made, this experience left us only thinking positive thoughts about our grade 6 excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria  .
